PurelyFunctional.tv Newsletter 272: Did you see the redesign?

Issue 272 - April 9, 2018 · Archives · Subscribe

Hi Clojurers,

You may have noticed some major design changes on PurelyFunctional.tv. The noticeable changes are only the beginning. Besides the design changes, I'm working on some major usability issues.

First on the list? Browsability. I have over 63 hours of lessons and it can be overwhelming to know where to start. Learning Paths help, but they're not enough for everything and everyone. I've got some things in the works that will make everything much more organized.

Second? Search. The search functionality of PurelyFunctional.tv has never been very good, despite some efforts into making it better. It sucked so bad that I basically hid the feature. But I think I'm finally getting to something that will work. Be on the lookout.

Now, with any major change like this, some things are bound to break. Please be patient with the small things that are broken as I work to make PurelyFunctional.tv better for you.

Please enjoy the issue.

Rock on!

How many people don't use component libraries? Reddit

I and the other Apropos panelists were quite happily surprised that our topic on Thursday (YouTube) prompted this nice discussion on Reddit.

A Theory of Functional Programming 0005

The latest episode of my new podcast called Thoughts on Functional Programming. In this episode, I talk about how functional programmers think about Actions (aka effects). We try to collapse the number of possible states, because states are multiplicative.

At the m oment, I think a twice-weekly cadence is working just fine. I've been really enjoying the interactions I've had with listeners on Twitter.

Atreus Keyboard Giveaway

There's time to enter the giveaway for the Atreus Keyboard I built from a kit I purchased from Phil Hagelberg.

Folks, that's all I've got for this week! I'm working hard on this redesign :)
